WRLC Awarded Grant to Protect the
East Branch of the Rocky River Watershed

Western Reserve Land Conservancy, in partnership with Cleveland Metroparks and Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, received a grant to fund land acquisition and restoration projects within the East Branch of the Rocky River watershed from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s 319 Program.

The 319 Program provides funding to projects that contribute to the protection and enhancement of water
quality and the reduction of non-point source pollution www.epa.gov/owow/nps/cwact.html

For more information on the project, contact Western Reserve Land Conservancy at (440) 729-9621.

East Branch of the Rocky River 319 Grant Project will:
-Protect 135 acres of open space with conservation easements
-Protect 4,500 linear feet of high-quality streams
-Protect 5 acres of wetlands
-Restore 1 acre of land to a healthy riparian buffer

Western Reserve Land Conservancy is working with landowners of large parcels within the project area that have expressed interest in preserving their properties with a conservation easement.  Cleveland Metroparks is preparing for the restoration of riparian buffer within the Hinckley Reservation.  Metroparks will remove invasive vegetation from the restoration site and replant the site with native vegetation.  This new buffer will filter runoff waters and provide habitat for native fauna that inhabit the Hinckley Reservation.
